Splurge and Save Christmas Table

Putting together a luxe looking Christmas table is all about choosing where to splurge and where to save. We are currently loving rust, pink and gold tones so used these colours as the main theme for our table.

Table swag

Fresh flowers can be expensive so we stuck with greenery for our table swag which was made with fresh magnolia leaves, wired onto rope. We tried to show off the lovely rust underside of the leaves to by wireing them in upside down. For a for a pop of metallic  we sprayed some of the leaves with gold spray and placed them in last. The best thing about this swag is that it will dry so you can make it before the big day and even reuse for future events

Cutlery + Crockery

The warehouse and Kmart were perfect for crockery and cutlery in these on trend tones. We used gold charger plates from the warehouse, blush placements, bowls, plates and brass toned cutlery  were all from Kmart.

the linen napkins were from Wallace Cotton from a few years back but they still sell similar natural linen styles as do Father Rabbit

Place Settings

We bought hessian bags and kraft tags from the dollar store and filled these with Lindt balls (Splurge). The gold tree decorations came in a pack of four from the warehouse. Christmas crackers were bought at the end of last year from Farmers when they went on sale.

Finishing touches

What kind of Christmas would it be without champagne! we splurged on the Moet and saved on the gold bucket which was also from the Warehouse.

Our centre piece was a gorgeous SOH candle ‘Collins Street’ which we sat on an old iron candle stick.

Parcels were wrapped in kraft paper and assorted twine and hessian ribbon from the dollar store. We added in gold spray painted sprigs and leaves for decoration. All the parcels were stashed in our gorgeous XL Uashmama bag from Crave home.

A big girl room makeover

With little sister Olivia swiftly out-growing her bassinet it was time to move Georgia into a big bed and with that, time for a room makeover.

We decided to be our own client and go through the moodboard process for this room and it definitely paid off, you know exactly how everything will look from the get go and you can budget and save accordingly. Georgia’s room already had great structure, with board and battening and exterior weatherboards and it also has french doors that open out onto a little deck so gets great light.

I love french-country inspired design, and wanted a room that was girly without the need for pink that she is sure to outgrow. I wanted something neutral but with heaps of texture and most of all I wanted her to have the luxury of only the best Linen, Foxtrot at home linen to be exact. It was perfect timing too as Foxtrot are just about to launch their kids linen range, including single and king single duvets, pillowcases and bed and cot sheets.

We went for the natural duvet with the grey striped linen sheets and pillowcases, and they are just devine! I love snuggling in there with her at night and can’t wait to get a set for my own bed. Once you’ve felt these sheets for yourself – you’ll know what I mean, the quality is next level and they are a great price too.

With the bedding sorted, we chose a creamy scroll style daybed from Early Settler – which I nabbed off trademe with a brand new matress (score!)

Before Georgia was born I had a Fromage la Rue antique star made for her nursery, I just loved it as it dims as a nightlight and has a lovely warm glow – it’s also aged and textured so is perfect for the French Country look we wanted for the room. As you probably know we adore Numero 74 and their gorgeous pieces and so we partnered with Leo & Bella and chose a few fab neutral pieces including the garland, star cushion canopy and falling star garland. While not having a full on theme, we did tie in the ‘celestial’ look with the star elements and antiqued danish lace wings.

Her much loved Ikea kitchen has a great sunny spot at the end of her bed and we’ve used baskets to store all the extra kitchen accessories.

Over the other side of the room the antique leather chair is the hero – perfect spot for old bear and reading bedtime stories. The wall map was a vintage French find. As we’re still on the look out for the perfect wardrobe, we painted three lots of wall hooks from Kmart in the same colour as the walls. These work perfect for hanging dresses and rompers and displaying a few fave pieces.

Georgie loves her new room and especially her special bed! be sure to follow @foxtrot_at_home for the launch of their new kids linen range and stay tuned for an amazing giveaway.

Harrïe & Sam

Both Jen and I are massive fans of quality basics that last the distance and can be worn over and over again, for us its all about quality fabrics with ease of care that are cut perfectly. Lucky for us then that we found Harrïe & Sam – a Waikato based fashion duo who have created exactly that; a capsule collection of edgy but classic pieces that can be worn on repeat.

Harrïe & Sam was started by long time besties Ella and Stacey and the Name Harrïe & Sam came about as it was the name of their two dogs (who are also besties).

I was lucky enough to choose a couple of their pieces from their Romance Collection – the No Frills Jacket  and The Romance Top. The pieces in this collection are designed to make you feel feminine and beautiful, combining simple ruffles, soft pleats, plunging necklines and beautiful fabrics.

They also have a ‘thrasher collection which features garments which are multi-functional and super easy to wear and can be taken from day to night. This collection is available all year round.

Harrïe & Sam work a bit differently from other brands in that every item is sold as a pre-sale item, this means that every garment you select and purchase is made especially for you, right here in New Zealand. They work alongside a very talented and highly experienced commercial seamstress who ensures every piece is constructed with true passion and care.

Make sure you follow the girls on instagram and Facebook so you don’t miss their next pre-sale date. You can also check out their available pieces on their website.
