Today we showcase the work of talented photographer Kari Herer. We have fallen in love with her trademark illustrations and mixed-media creations pairing tough natural elements with soft floral embellishments.

Based in Maine, Kari has a background in fine art and graphic design and also works as a wedding and portrait photographer. Her work has featured in many of our favourite publications including martha stewart weddings and design*sponge.

Her gorgeous prints are available via her etsy store and YES she delivers to NZ!!
Check out her blog here and follow her on facebook here to see more of her incredible work.

We’re particularly fond of Kari’s botanical and insect prints, they would look amazing in a white box frame.

Kari has recently teamed up with Anthropologie creating a range of limited editions print for charity. Our favourite is her piece titled ‘Uno’ designed in honor of Kaitlyn’s Foundation, an organization in Texas that supports special needs children of military families who use horses for therapy.

Anyone who has spent time in Greece will be familiar with the charms of bougainvillea. Its riotous hot pink flower is synonymous with summertime and long hot summers.

We’ve fallen in love with the bougainvillea all over again this summer as they are prevalent on the Hibiscus coast, and are a great cut flower for a pop of colour, that need no arranging.

Originating from Brazil this climber is ideal for growing over archways, pergolas, verandas, or anywhere they have a frame to grow on. They thrive in warmer climates, so love warm sunny sheltered spots. They come in a variety of shades including white, soft pink, fuschia and vivid purple. Best part is you can grow these in pots as a way to create your own piece of tropical paradise at home.

I’ve recently purchased a pair of hot pink ‘Mary Palmer’ bougainvillea to grow over my veranda as a way to take a piece of summer home with me. I can’t wait to watch them create a fabulous hot pink archway to look out on.

If you’ve also succumbed to the charm of this glorious plant, check out your local garden centre. You may need to get one ordered in for you as they can be hard to come by, but are well worth the hunt.

Find a sunny spot to put up a hammock, we love the Mexican string hammocks in brilliant summer colours. Hammocks are perfect spot to relax and enjoy a good book and the balmy summer evenings.
