Surf’s up

One of the biggest trends this season is the use of surfboards in home decor. Whether propped up against the wall or used as a table or shelf, they are the ultimate in cool and give a home that relaxed, fun ‘I’ve just been for a surf’ vibe.

Stylist Sibella court recently collaborated with Byron Bay board makers McTavish to create this amazing surfboard range – inspired by her recent book Gypsy. We think they make amazing oversized ‘art’ but can’t decide between the palms or the flamingos… or maybe we wait to see the soon-to-be-released collab with Bonnie & Neil….. EXCITING!

Anyone who has spent time in Greece will be familiar with the charms of bougainvillea. Its riotous hot pink flower is synonymous with summertime and long hot summers.

We’ve fallen in love with the bougainvillea all over again this summer as they are prevalent on the Hibiscus coast, and are a great cut flower for a pop of colour, that need no arranging.

Originating from Brazil this climber is ideal for growing over archways, pergolas, verandas, or anywhere they have a frame to grow on. They thrive in warmer climates, so love warm sunny sheltered spots. They come in a variety of shades including white, soft pink, fuschia and vivid purple. Best part is you can grow these in pots as a way to create your own piece of tropical paradise at home.

I’ve recently purchased a pair of hot pink ‘Mary Palmer’ bougainvillea to grow over my veranda as a way to take a piece of summer home with me. I can’t wait to watch them create a fabulous hot pink archway to look out on.

If you’ve also succumbed to the charm of this glorious plant, check out your local garden centre. You may need to get one ordered in for you as they can be hard to come by, but are well worth the hunt.
